After an introductory paragraph that reconstructs the history of ideas around the relationship between magic and science, the essay conducts a direct comparison between technological practices and magical ritual based on the notion of protocol. It will be argued that in magic we must see not an imperfect technique, but the realization of the eidetic-virtual side of technology. Magic would be that ideal activity which produces the maximum transformation of the world with the least expenditure of energy.
